One-Woman Show Shines Bright Light on Healing Autism
Autism and comedy might seem like unlikely bedfellows. But for Lynette Louise, creating and performing her one-woman play (think Lily Tomlin does The Vagina Monologues with a splash of music) about raising eight children—including six adopted from abusive or neglectful situations, of whom four were diagnosed on the autism spectrum—is the next logical step in an unconventional and courageous life.
THING TO THING TO THING—
From Crazy To Sane With Biofeedback, Autism And The Brain is full of funny, heartbreaking, and triumphant stories drawn from Lynette’s life, which reads like an adventure novel with the underlying theme of “anything’s possible.” A colorful composite of monologues, brain science, and music, Lynette recounts her 20-year search for ways to help her special needs children develop into independent adults, a journey that takes her from fiercely determined mom to international autism expert. The show is an inspiration to those of us who know the challenges of raising any child, with or without a disorder or a disability.
Living with Lynette
A Comedy Pilot Show (Fiction) starring actors with autism
In addition to Lynette’s life mission as a mother to many, she is also an accomplished performer, having enjoyed an early success in Canadian TV and (by her own admission) “B” movies. While solo performing frequently took a back seat to raising her unconventional family, she often created comedy and music shows turning the whole group into a traveling troupe and toured successfully around Canada and the United States.
Naturally, then, a next logical step was writing and producing a comedy show starring that same family! Not only family but also volunteer actors – most often actors with disabilities and brain dysfunctions – and production crew willing to work for minuscule fees. Living with Lynette is the pilot episode of what will eventually become a sitcom hiring actors, writers, crew, producers, sound mixers and more with disabilities and disorders.
